Matt Gallagher’s team held off all comers to run out winners at the recent U3a Big Night Out Trivia Contest. This glittering night of nights held at the Foster Hall kicked off with an energetic and entertaining performance from the ever popular Uke3a band under the expert guidance of Fran Dickinson and local music legend Dave Berry.
Gallagher and Co. put the pressure on early, setting up a substantial lead in a gruelling opening round of music trivia, and forcing the rest of the competition to play catch up all night. Afflito’s Mosquito Fleet, the Paragreen Dream Team, The Harris’s and Tortoises and the Mosaic Maggies all had their moments but in the end victory was a bridge too far for these plucky contestants and The Gallaghers held on to win by the narrowest of margins.
The Most Valuable Player on the night, as judged by Chef de Mission Ros Wathen, was Sally Conroy.
We caught up with the head of prizes, props, puzzles and promotions for the event, Mrs Chris Kemper, earlier this week: “I’d just like to thank all our donors, sponsors, work teams and enthusiastic supporters for their efforts in putting together a great night… and to congratulate Matt and his team on a well deserved victory.”
The major raffle, featuring a fabulous stay at Waratah Bay, courtesy of J & M Davies, was won by Mandy Emmanuel with the minor prizes taken out by Nola and Stephen Mills and Jill Willson; our resident poet laureate.
Thanks also to Prom Meats for their spontaneous contribution of 50 big ones to the U3a fundraiser. Dave Martin.
